Anupam and Shrabanti’s story

First time parents buy energy efficient home to combat rising bills

Greater Manchester first time buyers decided now was a good time to buy their dream home, ahead of the arrival of their first child. Countryside’s energy efficient new builds offered a premium quality of home and the potential to cut rising energy costs. It was meant to be!

Anupam and Shrabanti had not intended to purchase their first home quite so soon, but after facing rising energy bills in their rented apartment, they were desperate to change their living arrangements in time for their baby’s arrival.

Lecturer (34) and wife Shrabanti (33), fell in love with Countryside homes after visiting friends who had purchased on another development and were thrilled when they discovered a three bedroom home for sale at Belle Vue Place in Manchester.

Reducing energy costs

Not far from where they were living in Stockport, and with accessible transport links for work, they didn’t want to miss the opportunity. “We had been saving for three years and our plan was to purchase next year, to give us more time to save,” Anupam explained.

“As we already had the money for a deposit and a house became available at Belle Vue Place, we decided to go for it. We were expecting a baby boy and getting worried about living with the baby in the apartment, as the heating was constantly on and our energy bills were rising. We began to feel overwhelmed at how we were going to manage financially once our son was born.”

Now settled in their new, three-bedroom home, the couple have already noticed a reduction in their energy bills.

“We have noticed the house feels generally warmer, even in winter and we’ve not had to use the heating as much as when we were living in the apartment,” Anupam added.

Many buyers are seeing the benefits of new build properties, with research by the The Home Builders Federation finding owners of new builds are set to save buyers £3,100 per year on utility bills when the Energy Price Guarantee increases on 1 April this year.

As energy costs continue to rise, Countryside properties include energy saving measures as standard, making the properties 27% more energy efficient and use 20% less water than the national average**.
