Spring is a time for new beginnings and what better place to start than in your home? It’s a brand new season and Redrow’s in-house interior designer Alysha Alli is here with some of the hottest spring and summer interior design trends 2022 – including colour, texture and statement-making furniture and accessories.

Bring the joy

Alysha said: “Colour can certainly boost your mood, so introducing bold tones into your homeis one way to ensure your interiors bring a smile to your face every day. We highlighted rich orange tones paired with deep teal as colours that work well as accent shades to a soft neutral overall palette.”

Trend Bible’s Colour Direction 2022 forecast has outlined six key shades for the year chosen by their experts. Among them are Storm Blue, a deep shade of teal, which their trend forecasters suggest combining with greys and sandy pastels for a seasonal spring palette.

For its summer interior design palette, Trend Bible has paired sunflower – a bright and richshade of yellow – with dusky pink and pastel violet to create a cheerful and clean combination with a subtle retro nod.

Alysha explained: “Using bold colour in smaller pieces such as accent cushions and statement artwork
is key to making seasonal interior design trends work. The beauty of creating a neutral backdrop and then adding statement tones through your accessories is that you can change looks regularly without redecorating in full. A feature wall can be easily repainted if you fancy a fresh look.”

Nature makes a splash

Throughout spring and summer, we use our homes differently to how we may live in the colder months, as Alysha explained: “The lines between indoors and out become much more blurred as the weather improves. Creating spaces that function for this lifestyle, like garden rooms, or bringing natural forms and features into your open-plan spaces, while throwing your patio doors open, can create a sense of flow between home and garden.”

For spring / summer 2022 we’re seeing the natural trend evolve to combine handmade natural fibres like jute, wicker and mineral finishes with colourful elements.

Alysha explained: “Natural, and hand-crafted items in a range of hues have been leadinglooks at the latest interior design shows. Wicker lamps with vivid banding, richly coloured marble tabletops and brightly hued tinted glass all look beautiful when combined with organic textures and handpicked greenery.

“Why not add a twist to your rattan furniture by opting for a bold combination like rich green and coral pink
or choose a jute rug that subtly combines pastel colours with natural tones.”

Relaxed boho

Perfect for a garden room or bedroom, the boho trend (as pictured at the top of the page) is an easy way to bring relaxed summer vibes to your interiors.

Tassels, knotting, coloured leather and layering of printed fabrics have all been seen across the design shows and continue to make waves in home interior design.

Alysha said: “This trend doesn’t try too hard to fit the mould so you can have fun with your styling. Layer patterned throws with tassels and washed-out prints in natural fabrics like linen and cotton. Macramé planters are another great way to bring more plants into your home and further merge your interior with your garden.

“Fill large vases or white ceramics with tall pampas and tactile bunny tail grasses to add softer texture.”

Metallics and mirrors

Reflective surfaces take on a new life in the summer months, glistening in the warm sunlight and bringing the feel of a luxurious holiday destination into our homes.

Alysha said: “Glamorous touches for the new season include gold and brass detailing to furniture, plus round, brushed gold and gilded mirrors and statement layered coffee tables with pops of brass as a feature.

“While the look is high-end, imperfect finishes are celebrated by pairing metallics with more natural materials like glass, marble and polished concrete.

“Designers are also creating interesting smoked effects on glass and mirrors. Introduce this into your home with a smoked glass lamp base or eglomise glass vase to add a new dimension of luxury, while keeping your overall look elegant and natural.”
