The living room, is exactly that: a dynamic space in your home to relax, play, entertain, socialise, read, work…and live.
Such a multi-functional room deserves a fabulous décor, and in your new build home, you have the perfect blank canvas on which to express your personality! We’re showcasing five Bellway showhomes with statement living rooms to admire, whether your style is elegant and understated, or bold and bright.
Luxurious textures and soft blush shades
Interior design inspiration can come from the smallest things – and in this case of this fabulous living room it was a beautiful French fabric, that would later become the feature cushions.
The designers at Sunrise Interiors in Port Talbot fell in love with the charcoal silk fabric, embroidered with leaves in stone, mint and blush rose, and used the colours to create an entire colour palette and theme.
“We wanted to keep this generous sized room light, airy and elegant, so echoed the cushions with small amounts of charcoal in the curtain edging, cushion piping and sculptural table lamps – enough to give depth, but not overpower.
“We also emphasised the blush rose tone with rich cut velvet cushions, which glowed against the stone tones of the antiqued velvet sofas and beaded damask wallpaper.”
Love the style of this living room? Sunrise Interiors suggest keeping colour combinations simple and repeating them throughout the room, using small amounts of precious fabric to great effect. Echo shapes in the décor, such as the filigree mirrors and table lamps, and use a mixture of textures to bring the room to ‘life’.

Style it dark
A dramatic dark living room style can feel like a big commitment, but don’t let that thought hold you back! In The Lotus, the 3-bedroom showhome at Little Meadow in Cranleigh, Surrey, a mixture of shades, textures and patterns keeps the décor interesting and impactful.
Choosing sofas in a deeper navy blue shade than the matte paint used for the walls ensures that they stand out, especially when finished with cushions in a variety of colours and patterns. The soft throw and deep-pile rug add softness and a warmth to the room, while the glass coffee table and metallic gold touches allow light to travel and reflect around the space.
A neutral backdrop with bold splashes of colour
The neutral décor of this smart living room is punctuated with bold touches of orange, while the statement wallpaper helps to create a focal point that ties the room together.
Created by Warwick-based interior designers Abode, the room was created with the discerning homeowner in mind – one who would be only too happy to share this space with their visitors.
“We wanted [the room] to have a modern executive feel, using clean lines in the furniture and bringing in rich colours such as burnt orange and walnut,” Abode told us.
“We wanted a strong statement in the room as we saw the people purchasing the property as a family who would be keen to ’show off’ their new property. The Arte feature wallpaper we feel does this, having the bold pattern of birds in flight giving a sense of movement to the room and calmness.”

‘Tropic’ of conversation
Your living room is likely to be the room that your guests see most, so let it make an impression!
This quirky, tropical-inspired room uses key details to convey the theme, without making the space feel cluttered. A gold palm-tree shaped lamp is a fun but practical touch, while the wallpaper brings in plenty of bright colour, and the natural colours of the lamp and TV unit are evocative of a bar on a far-flung beach.

A style worth talking about
Understandably, many homeowners design their living room around the TV; however, with many styles of new homes now offering open-plan kitchens with family areas, you may find that you do most of your TV watching in there instead. So, what becomes of your living room?
Consider preserving it as a space to do everything but watch TV, and setting up conversation-style sofas that are perfect for entertaining guests. These kidney-shaped sofas offer plenty of space for friends and family to gather round, and without the TV as a distraction or barrier, the chatter will surely flow. And when the guests are gone, those inviting sofas are ideal for reading – or napping.
