PICTURE this: a beautiful, spacious family home designed to reflect the natural surroundings, situated in one of Edinburgh’s most desirable suburbs.

House hunters need no longer imagine, as CALA Homes (East) recently launched two stunning showhomes at their new development in Balerno, allowing buyers to envisage their dream home in its picturesque setting.

Both The Kennedy and The Lowther showhomes are detached, five bedroom properties from CALA’s new exciting Light and Space Collection, offering spacious family living spaces with modern and luxurious style.

With interiors from the highly reputed design house, Blocc Interiors, the homes have been designed to reflect their natural surroundings.

The Lowther design is vibrant, as inspired by the majestic plumage of the Kingfisher, a bird that keen spotters can find at nearby Water of Leith.

The Kennedy carries elements of the nearby Pentland Hills, with the textures and colours reflecting the nature reserve the hills offer, and the verdant landscape.

Suzanne Thomas, Creative Sales Director at Blocc oversaw the project from start to finish:

“The Lowther showhome was designed to be playful and vibrant with pops of colour throughout, reflective of the stunning colours of the Kingfisher. We added beautiful teal velvet sofas in the living room and an orange statement chair, using grey as a base to tie it all together and give a stylish but eclectic look.

“The Kennedy showhome was designed to a more mature taste: sophisticated and classy with an industrial meets retro style. The colours are more subtle, with classic creams and taupes as the base and dashes of racing car-green. The stylish black furnishings, statement wood-effect wallpaper and fantastic light fitting which runs the length of the dining table gives The Kennedy a real sense of modern luxury.

“When designing the interior of a home, it has to be aspirational but achievable. You have to capture the imagination of the purchaser and make them want to live there. If you do the design well, the potential buyer will get a really good feeling when they walk in the door.

“You are handed a blank canvas when you get to work on a property from plan. There is greater flexibility in the design and we can make sure each element of the home compliments each other.

“My personal favourite room to decorate is the master bedroom. It’s such a fantastic opportunity to create an atmosphere with the furnishings like the headboard, bedding, curtains and lighting. Or you can go in the completely opposite direction and create something very calm, neutral and feminine. My other favourite is kid’s rooms, because I’m a big kid at heart!

“We get most of our inspiration for the year when we visit the Maison and Objet Show in Paris. It is the largest, high-end interior design exhibition in Europe. This year it was all about different greens: sophisticated tones of mint and bottle in particular. Striking blues like teal and petrol were also very in trend. It’s interesting to see all the different styles filter down to the mainstream throughout the year, making them more achievable for home decorators who are perhaps on a tighter budget.

“My top tip for those looking to decorate their home to the latest style on a budget is to keep an eye on fashion trends. Interiors always tend to be a little behind fashion, so it’s a great way to see what colours are ‘in’ and how to work them into your home. Last year, foliage print was so popular in fashion and we are now beginning to see it appear in home decor.”

Situated near to excellent local schooling, open space, walkways and a play area, Kingfisher Park offers a perfect location for setting up a family home.

Amenities in Balerno and the surrounding areas of Currie and Juniper Green are plentiful and provide entertainment for both children and adults.

Featuring a range of homes, the current release comprises four and five bedroom homes, with demand proving to be high.
