In a national first, new homeowners at a Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ (BDW) development in Hampshire will be enjoying built-in ultrafast gigabit broadband from the moment they move in.
The housebuilder, a former WhatHouse? Housebuilder of the Year, has partnered with Openreach, Virgin Media and Hyperoptic to give homebuyers at the Harbour Place development in Bedhampton the option of immediate access to gigabit broadband connection – enough to download a two-hour HD movie from Netflix in just 30 seconds.
Whilst this new service from BDW is being rolled out across the country, this development is the very first site to have access to it. With home and virtual workplaces having never been so much in demand – coupled with ever-increasing family entertainment streaming requirements – strong, superfast broadband is considered an essential for modern life.
Residents purchasing the two-, three- and four-bedroom homes across the Barratt and David Wilson Homes sites at the Harbour Place development will be able to select from 18 different broadband providers. The wide variety of well-known providers include Virgin Media, Sky, TalkTalk, BT, EE and Vodafone, with options ranging from monthly pay-as-you-go services to annual contracts.
BDW is leading the way by announcing this strategy, which is in line with government targets for 85% of homes to have gigabit broadband access by 2025. All new sites built by the five-star housebuilder will include the new future-proof broadband service.
Jon Green, managing director at BDW Southampton division, said: “Delivering full-fibre broadband using three main providers will deliver a much better service – and all three providers have worked really hard to achieve this with us. This really is an industry first and we are proud to be leading the way with something that has been previously regarded as unachievable. Not only that, we are seeing the rollout on our own doorstep.”
Matt Warman, Minister for Digital Infrastructure, said: "It is our national mission to level up the country with better broadband and a major part of this is ensuring new homes across the UK come with fast and reliable connectivity built in. Barratt's commitment to a range of internet packages gives homeowners greater choice so they can shop around for the best deal and take advantage of everything new technology has to offer."
Harbour Place is situated just a short drive away from Havant town centre and with easy access to larger cities of Chichester, Portsmouth and Southampton. It will feature a collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes situated between Bedhampton and Drayton, close to Havant, with its variety of shops, cafés and restaurants, and with excellent transport links and a great choice of local schools.
