John Elliott
Managing Director
The Home Builder’s Federation (HBF) will be running New Homes Week from Monday 15th May working with many of the UKs leading developers, to highlight the benefits of buying new. John Elliott, Managing Director of Millwood Designer Homes, tackles the misconceptions and myths surrounding buying a new build property:
Myth 1: New- build homes are more expensive
There are a wide range of new homes suited to all types of buyers and budgets. Whether you are a first-time buyer taking that first step on the ladder, a second stepper upsizing to raise a family or downsizing, there are countless designs and styles to choose from in all price ranges.
There are more ways than ever now to help you secure your dream build-home. Incentives such as Help to Buy, Help to Buy Equity Loans, Shared Ownership and Mortgage Guarantee are available. As well as these incentives, Millwood offer homeowners peace of mind with a dedicated Customer Aftercare Service available for two years from the day you move into the property and a 10 year Premier Guarantee protecting buyers from liability on structural problems.
Myth 2: New homes lack character or charm
Gone are the days when buying a new home meant sacrificing on character and charm. There’s a lot more variety in new homes out there and countless designs and styles to choose from.
At Millwood, we are passionate about combining traditional period charm with all the benefits of the latest advances in modern technology. At many of our previous and current developments, the use of reclaimed bricks and roof tiles help us add to the period character. All homes are crafted with the highest attention to detail and architectural elements are carefully planned to complement local settings. All of our homes are designed with stylish elevations, creative features and flexible and light-filled open floor plans, ideal for modern living.
Myth 3: A new-build home will not have the features I want
Another common myth is that broadband connection and storage space are two key issues when buying a new-build.
Today families, young and old, are looking for fast and reliable internet, whether it is for working at home, online shopping or gaming. As more homes are built across the country, the delivery of high quality technological infrastructure in developments is becoming increasingly important. At Millwood, we are always looking to implement the latest technology to ensure our residents can enjoy a modern, connected home with the next generation of broadband speed.
Lack of storage space is another misconception associated with new homes. Finding a home for the possessions we don’t use every day can be a challenge, however at Millwood, storage space is constantly a priority. Extra storage space comes in the form of laundry rooms, utility rooms and large floor to ceiling cupboards.
At many of our developments, the excellent opportunity to buy a new home off-plan offers many advantages, including having an active say in features such as flooring, carpets and colours that you want in your new home.
Myth 4: New homes are located in the middle of nowhere
New homes are available in a wide range of locations from city centres to quiet, rural locations to suit different buyers needs and requirements. A combination of amenities, convenient transport links, great schools, green open spaces, pubs, restaurants all contribute to the perfect place for new communities to grow and thrive.
At Millwood, we always carefully assess the location of a new development as we care about the areas we build in. Building new homes that are close to local amenities, schools and leisure facilities are a top priority. Travel connections are also considered for convenient access to major train stations, motorways and airports.
