A young couple from Cumbernauld have taken their first steps onto the property ladder after securing their dream home with a helping hand from Barratt Homes.

Mhairi-Claire Caw, 24, and Ross Cochrane, 26, recently bought a brand new home at the Antonine Way development in Bonnybridge.

History teacher Mhairi-Claire and greenkeeper Ross, had long dreamt of moving to Bonnybridge. The village’s parks, riverside walks and sprawling expanses of open fields were perfect for the soon-to-be puppy parents, who welcomed excitable mini dachshund, Bruno to the family in July 2017.

As the couple embarked on their first buying journey together, they decided to utilise the Help to Buy scheme which allowed them to buy a three bedroom semi-detached home with just a 5% deposit.

They had previously wanted an older property with period features but soon came to find that these came with considerable upkeep and renovation price tags. Hearing of their friends’ stress-free journey with Barratt Homes at their Burn Brae development in Cumbernauld, the pair decided to explore the option of a new build.

As the Antonine Way development launched they were struck by the well planned streets, stunning views and the affordability of the homes – and quickly realised it would be the place they would go on to call home.

Mhairi-Claire and Ross bought the three bedroom, semi-detached, Urquhart house style at Antonine Way. Downstairs is an open plan kitchen / dining area that is ideal for socialising, something Mhairi-Claire was keen to have in her new home. Upstairs are three bedrooms – two double and one single. Adding to the luxury of their new home was the spacious master bedroom which came with a stylish en-suite shower room.

Mhairi-Claire said, “Our move with Barratt Homes has been a pleasure from start to finish. We were invited to the pre-showhome sales launch in Cumbernauld and as soon as I saw the variety of product available, within our price range, I knew we had to reserve. I could not believe how many options were available to us from the availability of Help to Buy, to the choices we got for our kitchen, bathroom and vanities.

“It has been such a great experience. One of the most exciting things about buying a new build home is witnessing it being built from the ground up – the suspense makes it more exciting and the day you get the keys is just amazing.

“Plus, I could see our home coming together before my eyes with every colour choice we made with the sales consultant. We were able to use the Help to Buy scheme and got our flooring as part of the Barratt Homes package available at the time.

“Because of this, we had a little bit of money remaining to spend on home furnishing – many Pinterest boards later and lots of visiting showhomes for inspiration and I’m really happy with how the house has turned out.”

The Urquhart is still available to purchase from £180,495 at Antonine Way, with a range of additional three and four bedroom homes priced from £214,995 to £257,995.
