Property-hunters seeking a new build home in Bedfordshire now have a first chance and a last chance at developments in Shortstown.

Bellway has just introduced Help to Buy on the apartments at Eastcotts Place. All one- and two-bedroom properties here can now be purchased by first-time buyers through the government-backed scheme, which requires a 5% deposit and 75% mortgage, the balance being provided as a loan by the government which is interest-free for the first five years.

Since April, the regional price maximum price for the East of England region has been £407,400. The scheme is also now available exclusively to first-time buyers. One- and two-bedroom apartments at Eastcotts Place start from £150,000 and £190,000.

Luke Southgate, sales director for Bellway Northern Home Counties, said: “The introduction of regional price caps for Help to Buy is sure to have a significant impact on the first-time buyer market. Larger houses previously eligible for the scheme will now be out of reach for many people looking to take their first steps on the property ladder.

“This is likely to see greater demand for smaller properties, with apartments becoming an increasingly attractive option for first-time buyers. The range of apartments at Eastcotts Place are suitable for both young professionals and young families, with a price tag well below the regional Help to Buy limit.

“The spacious open-plan layouts of the apartments lend themselves perfectly to family living and entertaining, while the development itself is located within a brand-new neighbourhood with parks, play areas and a primary school nearby.”

Also available with Help to Buy at Eastcotts Place are the three-bedroom semi-detached ‘Tweed’ and ‘Kennett’ house types, priced from £320,000 and £330,000, respectively. Bellway is also building at Eastcotts Green, a neighbouring development featuring a range of two- to five-bedroom houses. Find out more at bellway.co.uk.

‘The Kilwick’

Ashberry Homes has just one home remaining for sale at Sycamore Avenue, as construction nears completion there. In all, there are 87 homes at the site off Conder Boulevard, a mix of two- to five-bedroom properties. The first homes went on the market in October 2019 with the first residents moving onto the development early last year.

‘The Kilwick’ is a four-bedroom detached house, priced at £499,995 and spread over a very generous 1,805 sq ft of living space. Each of the bedrooms is a double, and two have their own en suite shower room. The other two bedrooms share a family bathroom. Downstairs, there’s an open-plan kitchen/family room opening out to the garden, and separate, bay-windowed dining room at the front and lounge to the rear, with its own French doors to the garden.

Rachael Gatehouse, sales manager for Ashberry Homes Eastern Counties, said: “Sycamore Avenue is an elegant development providing a high-quality range of homes for housebuyers at different stages of the property ladder.

“Located just four miles from Bedford town centre, the site borders picturesque open countryside and benefits from a selection of amenities, including shops, play areas and New Cardington Park, right on its doorstep.

“Many families have settled at the development, which is situated near a number of well-regarded schools, including Shortstown Primary School, which was built as part of the wider development.

“There has been particularly strong demand from people previously living in London. Sycamore Avenue offers these buyers much better value for money and greater access to open space while still being within easy commuting distance of the capital.”
