When Yuksel and Kaska began to think about their next home move, they were already considering a new build property, thanks to the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme. As the initiative is not just for first-time buyers, Yuksel and Kaska were able to use the scheme for their second home; a brand new three-bedroom semi-detached house at CALA Homes’ Clover Gate development in Potton.

Yuksel, who works in a call centre, and Kaska, an events coordinator, previously lived in Welwyn, but felt it was time to make a step up on the property ladder with their five-year-old son, Kamil. They were enticed by Clover Gate due to its ideal location – being near to where they work – but in a quieter, more rural area which they felt was a good place to raise a family.

“Our son is now five and our previous one-bedroom flat was beginning to feel restrictive and too small for our growing family. We both work in Welwyn but we were interested in moving to the Biggleswade area. I hadn’t heard of CALA Homes’ Clover Gate development, and it was only when we drove through Biggleswade and its surrounding villages that I saw a sign for the development. Out of curiosity, I popped into the sales office to be greeted by such helpful and friendly staff who showed me round a lovely three-storey home, which I knew would be perfect for my family. I was really attracted by the layout of the home, and with it being spread across three floors, it meant the rooms were a great size and could perfectly accommodate us as a family of three. What really caught my eye was the amount of storage throughout the home. Coming from a one-bedroom flat to having all that storage space on top of an already spacious house was great.”

Yuksel and Kaska not only fell in love with the property at Clover Gate, but also the town of Potton.

“Clover Gate couldn’t be in a better location for us. Potton is a beautiful and quiet area, which is exactly what we were looking for to raise our family, but it doesn’t compromise on convenience. It’s easy for us to pop to the train station and also close to all the necessary amenities – we have everything we need just a stone’s throw away and our journeys to work take only 30 minutes.”

The family were able to purchase their dream new home using the Government-backed Help to Buy initiative; something they also used to purchase their previous one-bedroom flat. The scheme is designed to support both first time buyers and existing homeowners to purchase a new property with as little as a 5% deposit. It only applies to new build properties in England with a maximum purchase price of £600,000.

“We used the Help to Buy scheme on our flat, which was also a new build, five years ago with a different developer. The scheme really helped us onto the property ladder, so when we realised we could use it for a second time round, it was a no brainer, and so we made the decision then to purchase another new build home. The scheme has once again surpassed our expectations and enabled us to purchase a lovely family home, which we otherwise probably wouldn’t have been able to afford.

“CALA Homes recommended a mortgage advisor who came to our flat to run through all of the paperwork, and that’s where our involvement ended. They took all of the admin into their own hands, meaning we could use the scheme without any of the hassle of having to liaise between all the different parties.

“We’ve now been at Clover Gate for a few months and are settling in really well. Our home provides all the space we need, and the area is great for raising our young son. I would recommend CALA Homes and the Help to Buy scheme without doubt, and I think more people need to know about the Clover Gate development so they don’t miss out on the chance to live here.”

The home Yuksel and Kaska purchased was The Ickhurst, which provides ample space over three-storeys, perfectly equipped for modern family living. The home features a large sitting room and attached family room, with French doors opening out to the rear garden and stunning Velux windows, creating a bright space to relax and socialise. To the front of the property, there is an impressive kitchen/dining room, W/C and the floor is complete with a number of storage cupboards.

On the first floor, the master bedroom boasts a wall-length fitted wardrobe and en-suite shower room, alongside the third bedroom and large bathroom. The second bedroom, which encompasses the entire top floor, is versatile and if you only require two of the bedrooms for sleeping, this extra bedroom can be transformed to suit your needs. However, Yuksel and Kaska felt that this room provided the perfect private space for their master bedroom, thanks to the attached en-suite.

Clover Gate is located in the historic market town of Potton, set in the south Bedfordshire countryside. The town offers a wide variety of shops located around a Georgian market square, as well as a number of restaurants and pubs to choose from. The location is ideal for commuters, with Sandy train station near to the development providing a fast rail service into London Kings Cross in less than an hour. The A1, M11 and A14 are also within easy reach, making Cambridge, Peterborough and Bedford only a 30 minute drive away. To head even further afield, London Luton Airport is within a 30 mile drive. The town of Potton and the surrounding areas have a number of lower and middle schools, all of which have been Ofsted-rated as ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’.
